Evidence Based Birth Podcast Interviews Moss.
In this interview with Evidence Based Birth, Moss talks about what brought them to birth work and their approach to working with trans and queer families.
“It’s difficult to put into words just how important Moss’s support was during my pregnancy, labor and postpartum. As a first-time parent, I was anxious, scared, and had no idea what to expect, but Moss’s childbirth education course, many meetings with my husband and I throughout the pregnancy, and in-person support through a 36-hour labor were invaluable. Without Moss, there is no way I would have had the strength and support I needed to have a birth as close to the one I wanted as possible. Moss was able to prepare my husband and I with essential knowledge on labor, interventions, and coping skills, as well as help us construct a birth plan and advocate for our needs when navigating a complex, often impersonal medical system.
Moss came prepared to my birth with scents, snacks, electric candles, and the sounds of Joni Mitchell and Adrienne Lenker playing on loop. My husband was able to support me using the skills Moss taught us- slow dancing, massaging my back, and using the shower head in the hospital bathroom as I labored. Moss quickly connected with our nurses and helped me advocate with the doctors when they tried to rush my labor. At one point, I almost gave up, but Moss encouraged me, held my hand, and helped me breathe and moan through the pain by making sounds along with me. Moss was able to help me tap into my inner strength and welcome my first child into the world. They are truly a gift to the birthing world and I highly recommend them as essential support for any birthing person. “
